About Us

A small house for books that are meant to last a little longer than the moment.

What it is

The Authors Vault is an independent literary brand and online bookstore. It publishes ebooks and sells them directly to readers.

Why it exists

Much of what we read today is written to be skimmed. The Authors Vault was started to make the opposite: short, clear books that take one idea seriously and stay with the reader afterwards.

The name

A vault is where things worth keeping are kept. Ideas, manuscripts and finished books all begin here, and the tagline points to what comes after: books, and whatever lies beyond them.

Our philosophy of books and ideas

  1. 1

    One idea, followed through

A good book does not try to say everything. It chooses a question and stays with it until something useful comes out.

  2. 2

    Respect for the reader

Plain language, honest claims, no padding. A reader's time and attention are the price of every book, before any money is paid.

  3. 3

    Care in the making

From the cover to the last page, each book is designed and edited with the same attention we hope readers will bring to it.

The founder

Dr. Mohit Gautam

Mohit Gautam is a medical graduate and an independent author. He completed his MBBS at Government Medical College, Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, affiliated with King George's Medical University, Lucknow.

Medicine trains a particular way of looking: patiently, at the person in front of you, and at what is actually happening rather than what seems to be. He brings the same habit to writing. His books look at ordinary pressures, such as distraction, comparison and the hidden costs of our choices, and try to describe them clearly enough that a reader can do something about them.

He founded The Authors Vault to publish that work independently and to offer it directly to readers.

The long view

A growing shelf of books, essays and projects worth keeping.

The Authors Vault will grow slowly and deliberately: more books, longer essays and new publishing projects, each held to the same standard as the first three.
